You have found the perfect new baby bassinet!  You have it home and now it is time to get down to set up your bassinet and complete the nursery. You now have two considerations. The first is bassinet assembly. The second is to set up bassinet to meet the specific needs of your newborn and yourself. There are certain bassinet extras and accessories that will save you time and headaches if you are prepared.

Assembling Your New Bassinet

  • Bassinet  assembly is usually required because they come in parts due to shipping considerations as well as space considerations for the home. You will find that you have a list of necessary tools in most bassinet assembly instructions and generally the most complex tool required is a screwdriver.  If you are uncomfortable with tools then grab a partner or neighbor or family member who is handy.
  • Be sure and measure your bassinet and your doorways. Some bassinet styles are wide. Assemble a bassinet in the nursery or room you plan to have it set up in.
  • Double check the stability and security of the base and casters if there are any included. Everything on the bassinet needs to be firm and secure. Wobbly is not good. Tighten the screws securely and insure that the parts fit as intended.
  • After the bassinet assembly place the bassinet skirt, hood cover, and bedding and you now have a safe and secure infant sleep space.

Bassinet Extras and Essentials

  • It could well be your bassinet comes with the bare bassinet extras but there are other things that can make your new bassinet cozy and comfy for your newborn. Spare bedding is a bassinet need. If your bassinet came with only one set of bedding then of course you will need to purchase at least one spare set (although two is easier).  Even if you have chosen organic bassinet bedding, replacement bassinet bedding or individual bassinet bedding pieces they should be widely available.
  • Bassinet liners are essential in setting up your baby bassinet and you should have several. Accidents happen and the bassinet liner helps keep the baby bassinet mattress dry. You may want to consider having at least three or more bassinet liners.
  • Spare bassinet covers are also a must have. The interior lining and crib bumper pads on a bassinet not only look pretty but also serve a function in protecting baby from the uncomfortable sides of the bassinet. You may want to consider having a spare set of bassinet bumper pads so that one can be washed and baby still can be safe and secure in his comfy bassinet.
  • Use the storage space under the baby bassinet! Many bassinets come with a storage area under the skirt or beneath the bassinet. When setting up your baby bassinet choose items you will use often and may not want to leave the bassinet to get, like baby wipes, powder, lotion, and a spare pacifier.

Every mom will have her own idea of what bassinet extras include especially when setting up the bassinet for her newborn and these are just broad outlines of some bassinet essentials every mom can use.

This is a very exciting time to set up your nursery and make sure it completes your home. Follow these few hints to make sure that your nursery and bassinet assembly meet your highest expectations.
